What is the fourth step in the sequence?

Authorized employees may then proceed to energize and test or position the equipment or machinery

Energy control safety relies on a careful, orderly sequence so equipment can be tested or repositioned without risking unexpected startup. After shutdown, isolation of energy sources, locking out or tagging out, and dissipating stored energy, the next safe step is to reenergize the system to test or position the equipment. This is done only when the area is clear, the machine is free of tools and materials, and all personnel are out of the machine area. Reenergizing in this controlled moment verifies that the controls function correctly and that the machine can be operated safely.

Following testing, all systems must be deenergized

The machine must be cleared of tools and materials

Employees must be removed from the machine area
